Fabric & Grass by Ibi Ibrahim - Artwork

Fabric and Grass - UNFRAMED

In 2012, Ibi Ibrahim embarked on a groundbreaking journey into color photography with his inaugural pieces from the Sitara series. This collection pays tribute to the Sitara, a vibrant fabric once worn by Yemeni women before the prevailing adoption of the black Abbaya from the north. Through this work, Ibi Ibrahim seeks to resurrect the image of the free-spirited Yemeni women of a bygone era – the 'forgotten queens' – in stark contrast to the present portrayal of women, often reduced to objects of sin, necessitating concealment in black attire.
